In May 2015 was issued the final revision of the RFC 7519 standardizing the JSON Web Token (JWT) format. This final consensus is the result…of a 3 year work since the first RFC draft. This article does not aim at stating definitive rules regarding the use of JWT but at pointing a few properties of JWT that seem to be underused. Parts of this article refers to RFC 7515 (JSON Web Signatures) and RFC 7516 (JSON Web Encryption). JWT are meant to be shared something between an issuer and an audience You do not need to issue JWT if there is no one taking advantage of its content.
